Wild Horses: Living Symbols of Freedom

by Downer, Craig C.

Craig C. Downer has observed and studied the behavior, ecology and evolution of wild horses and burros in his native state of Nevada, as elsewhere in the West and in the world, throughout his life. He has gained an understanding of and feel for desert and mountain ecosystems and the ecology and movement patterns of a wide variety of grazing and browsing herbivores. What particularly qualifies him for writing this book are the many days he has spent since he was a boy observing the wild horses, particularly in the panoramic Pine Nut range rising east of his home in Carson Valley, which abuts the lofty Sierra Nevada mountains near Lake Tahoe.

This book includes a forward by Velma Johnston, alias "Wild Horse Annie" and Chapters such as: History of the Wild Horse, Wild Horses in their Natural State, Adaptability of Wild Horses, Man's Attitude Toward the Wild Horse, and Lesson to Mankind From the Wild Horse.
