Red, Candle-lit Darkness

by Thomas, Larry D.

Larry D. Thomas, member of the Texas Institute of Letters and the 2008 Poet Laureate of Texas, offers twelve poems that explore the lives of the cinnabar miners of the Chisos Mining Company in the Big Bend country of Texas in the early 1900s. In his characteristic terse and poignant style, Thomas gives those forgotten men a voice after nearly a century.

The poems are grouped in three sections, with each sub-title page illustrated with a woodcut that draws upon the Calaveras tradition .
