"Ekphrasis" means “Description” in Greek. An ekphrastic poem is a vivid description of a scene or, more commonly, a work of art. Through the imaginative act of narrating and reflecting on the “action” of a painting or sculpture, the poet may amplify and expand its meaning.
"This is what Ekphrastic Poetry is supposed to do: go beyond the visual image of the photo and make the scene come alive in language. Once again, I find in Bleak Music this balance of sound, rhythm, lineation, and stanzaic construction that defines good poetry." - Nelson Sager, Ph.D.
